Launching a fully functional MVP in under a week! Road to $5k MRR

In this article I'll be going what I did to launch my MVP in under a week.

The project is called SpacedLeets (spacedleets.com) - a platform for engineers to solve Leetcode problems and prepare for technical interviews. SpacedLeets utilizes spaced repetition which is critical for long term memory so the tool not only helps engineers by shortening the time they need to prepare but also keeps the coding concepts in their memory longer..

TLDR; Launched a fully functional software in under a week. Going to focus on getting users now. Building more software to reach $5k MRR.

Be clear on the 'must haves' versus the 'nice to haves'

If you're launching a new product, it may feel like you're a week away from launch. But in reality, it's more like three days. That's because there are so many things to take care of before your MVP can go out the door—and that list is never-ending!

I made sure to list out all the features that are needed for the launch, I did this by writing a design document of the critical models/APIs. twitter.com/pwangszn/status/155925029084252..

It's important to define the problem before you start on a solution.

Set goals first, and then write down what your MVP needs to accomplish.

Don't worry about other people's goals, or how they're going to achieve them. Your own is more important than anyone else's! Be ambitious but stay realistic at the same time - don't go too crazy with your ideas because it might scare off investors or customers before they even get started with your product/service (which defeats the whole purpose of having an MVP in the first place!).

Make a list of top priorities

I created some mockups to keep myself focused on the top priorities

When you're making a list of the top priorities for your MVP, it's important to prioritize based on user feedback. You might think that all users will have similar needs and wants, but they don't!

For example: if your product is a flashlight app, one user could be interested in being able to turn the light off with their phone while another user would like an option to set up different modes (like strobe mode). Thus, you should prioritize features accordingly.

Select your MVP features

For the MVP, I only picked the most crucial piece to implement: twitter.com/pwangszn/status/155978013595126..

Select the features that will make a difference to your users.

Choose the features that are most important to your users.

Work backward from launch day and determine what needs to be done each day to get to launch on time.

Work backward from launch day and determine what needs to be done each day to get to launch on time. Determine your most important tasks, and then prioritize them in order of importance. Be realistic about how much you can get done in a day and be realistic about the time it takes to complete tasks.

For example, if you're working on version 1 of your product (which is going live at noon), you might want to:

Update the signup form with new fields that aren't visible until version 2 comes out—this means taking care of some priority tasks like adding or changing fields in tables before moving on with other parts of your MVP build process (e.g., requesting feedback).

Create a checklist for yourself so that every step along the way gets checked off as completed when setting up new features or improving existing ones; this will help keep track of everything needed throughout development so there are no surprises later down road when trying everything together again!

Conclusion

As you can see, creating an MVP in under a week is a lot of work. But, with the right tools and processes, it’s possible! As we mentioned before, having a solid plan is the key to success. You need to know what your goals are and how much time they will take up before starting on anything else. We hope this post has helped you get ready for launching your MVP and have some fun doing it!

I will be building more SaaS as I try to scale from $5k in MRR, follow my Twitter if you're interesting in following along, will post updates. twitter.com/pwangszn
